A Once-in-a-Lifetime Journey: Our First (& Possibly Last) SIA Business Class Experience
There are some journeys in life that feel extra special, not just because of the destination, but because of the experience along the way. This upcoming trip to South Korea with my mum is exactly that. Not only are we looking forward to the beautiful scenery (praying hard for cherry blossom views), food, and moments together, but this trip also marks our very first time (and quite possibly our last one) flying Singapore Airlines Business Class.
What makes it even more meaningful is that this was not something I casually booked. It took careful planning, miles accumulation, and a bit of strategy. I got to say I am not a great miles player, as my miles accumulation journey was far from optimized, and thus resulted quite a bit in lifestyle inflation. Thus I decided to end the accumulation phase earlier, and in the end, I only managed to accumulate and hence redeem enough miles for a one-way Business Class flight from Singapore to Seoul for both of us. Nonetheless, that alone already felt like a small victory, as letting my mum enjoy this experience was my main motive, and usually, she is all for taking budget. For our return journey, we will be flying back on Scoot, also redeemed using the remaining miles, a practical but still satisfying way to fully maximise whatever miles I had.
The Excitement Before the Journey
As the departure day approaches, the excitement has been building steadily. There is something incredibly satisfying about knowing that this is not just another flight, it is actually an experience we have been looking forward to, especially for my mum. Being able to share this with her makes it all the more worthwhile.
One of the highlights we were most excited about even before stepping onto the plane was “Book the Cook”. After browsing through the menu, we decided to treat ourselves to two signature dishes: the Aromatic Barramundi and the Lobster Thermidor. Just thinking about enjoying these restaurant-quality meals at 30,000 feet already made the journey feel premium.
Starting the Day at SilverKris Lounge
We made sure to start our day early to fully soak in the experience. Arriving at the airport ahead of time allowed us to access the SilverKris Lounge for Business Class passengers, a privilege that immediately set the tone for the trip. The lounge was calm, comfortable, and a perfect escape from the usual airport rush. We spent a few relaxing hours there, enjoying the food and simply taking things slow. One standout for us was the classic laksa. It was rich, flavourful. Sitting there with a warm bowl of laksa, knowing the journey ahead would be just as enjoyable, felt surreal.
The Business Class Experience
When it was finally time to board, everything felt smooth and unhurried. Stepping into the Business Class cabin was a moment in itself, with spacious seats, attentive service, and an atmosphere that immediately made us feel taken care of.
Once settled in, the experience only got better. Champagne was served, and that was what my mum and I prefer over wine. We started by exploring the seats and amenities, and the journey started by a movie "The Dumpling Queen", which is a chinese movie about a Chinese lady painstakingly bringing up her two daughters on her own through selling dumplings in Hong Kong, and how eventually she became a multi-millionaire with a dumpling empire. After the nice movie, it was time for the meal to be served. The meals we had pre-ordered did not disappoint. The satay appetizer was tender and the salad was pleasant. The Aromatic Barramundi was tender and perfectly cooked, while the Lobster Thermidor felt indulgent and luxurious. It is not an every day event for us to get to enjoy such dishes in the sky, and we made sure to savour every bite.
After the meal, we continue with our movie marathon, and at the same time we had a few more glasses of champagne, wine and desserts. We also got to adjust our seats to lie flat or partial at a comfortable angle. Being able to lie back, rest properly, and wake up feeling refreshed was something entirely new compared to our usual budget flights. It made a noticeable difference, not just physically, but mentally as well.
A Memorable Experience
Looking back, this journey is more than just a flight. It is a memory in the making. It is about sharing a special experience with my mum, something we might not get to do again, and appreciating the little luxuries that made the trip feel extraordinary. From the excitement of redeeming the miles, to enjoying the lounge, to indulging in “Book the Cook”, and finally relaxing in comfort during the flight, it all came together beautifully.
While our return trip on Scoot will be a more modest experience, it does not take away from what we have already gained. If anything, it makes this Business Class journey feel even more special. This is not just about flying Business Class. It is about creating a moment in time, one that we will both remember for years to come.

Wow Bro, your business class flight with the Lobster set with asparagus looks delicious wor.....the Laksa at the lounge also seems very authentic with the rich coconut curry broth. :) Looking forward to you sharing on your visit to interesting places of interest in South Korea after your trip back.
