Hoping December Will Be A Better Month & I Had My Last Getaway For The Year!

As we enter December, frankly speaking, it is all holiday mood for me.  I am not too concerned with my portfolio, as there is nothing I can do.  If it drops, I will continue to dollar cost averaging in by capital injection and reinvesting dividends.  If it rises, I will just leave it alone and hope it recovers in value.  I have no intention to sell as I am building my stream of passive income via dividends.

Although the dividends for December has not been paid yet, but the various stocks and REITs have XD, and I am pleased to know that I am able to achieve my aim of SGD 18K for this year, which amounts to SGD 1.5K per month.  This is definitely good news for my portfolio despite the turmoil for the year.  However, things remain to be seen next year, as dividends may be impacted due to the high interest rate environment.  The distribution per unit (DPU) by the REITs may be negatively impacted next year.  The extent of decline in DPU for the respective REITs remains to be seen, and I shall just hope for the best and yet be prepared for the worst.

In anticipation for the holiday mood, its time for another trip, this time to Bali, Seminyak!  This is my first time travelling to Bali, and I chose Seminyak for the 4 days 3 nights solo trip as it is relatively nearer to the airport, and I have no intention to try out any water activities.  After some research, I think the nice beach, chic cafes and monstrous amount of dining options in Seminyak will be a good starting point for me to go.  If the experience is good and chill, I may be able to include it in my list of possible place for retirement!

Total "Damage" for this solo trip:

Food + Endless Cafes + Transport + Massage + Souvenirs + Tips: IDR 2,740 K

(Exchange rate I got for this trip is SGD 1 : IDR 10970; Total expenses is SGD 630.00)

Overall it's a relatively relaxing and chill trip for me.  No water activities, no nature trail and hike activities, no temple-visiting activities... just slack, and chill, and be laid back.  Probably it is my first time here, I am not used to the way of life here as yet.  Or probably Seminyak is too touristy, hence the things here are more on the pricy side.  As of this trip, my personal thoughts are probably Bali is not suitable for me as a place for retirement.  Or perhaps I should 'give Bali another chance', and visit other more scenic regions like Ubud.  We shall see how it goes, one step at a time, one place at a time.  Nonetheless, hope this recharging trip can last me till the next one, and may markets improve too!  Barista FIRE, here I come...!

  1. Seminyak has always been know as the more "expensive" part of bali, where you find most of the villas and higher class cafes which targets more affluent tourists. Usually when I go bali, i will spend only 2 nights at Seminyak and 3-4 nights at other regions that are usually cheaper.

    1. Hi Anonymous,
Yup I believe that's the case. That's why I mentioned probably Ubud would be a better place to explore. Nonetheless, its a good experience with the super friendly people there!
